We had an incredible opportunity to partner up with the Shoreline Neighborhood Action Coalition (NAC) last
month on Saturday, February 18th! This is an amazing group of people up north that are taking action to make
positive impact on our neighborhoods and we want to lend a hand. We worked together to help Camp United
We Stand, a homeless encampment in Shoreline, strike the current camp and move to their new location. We
had 2 volunteers from BWB Seattle join up with 5 volunteers from the Shoreline NAC at 10AM to start moving
the public spaces – especially the kitchen and helping the disabled residents – and setting up the new camp.
Tasks involved rolling up fence fabric, transporting wood panels and pallets, and gathering loose items. We had
a steady stream of volunteers throughout the day, including some BWB Seattle volunteers that came by in the
afternoon to help us keep on schedule and complete the move.

A note from our event lead, Sarah Ruth:
Feeling grateful to the Shoreline Neighborhood Action Coalition and to Burners Without Borders for their
collaborative effort to help a homeless camp move across town to a new site. I was impressed with the can-do
attitude of everyone who showed up, and thrilled that we were able to make a difference. This was my first-ever
experience being the organizer of an effort like this, and I’m pretty jazzed about it. Thanks to all who
participated!”

Thanks to all of our kind volunteers who made it out! As one of them said, “The vibe of the Playa is alive and
well in Seattle.”
